Scenic Design

Eurydice - IWU Theater Guild - Directed by Gloria Billingsley

Sarah Ruhl's Eurydice explores loss, memory, and love with a poetic and abstract style. To portray these themes within the space for the audience, natural shapes blended into man-made architectural elements which intentionally drew the 3/4 thrust audience into an ethereal experience.
*Recieved a Wesley Award for Best Set Design 2018

Love, Marriage, and a Baby Carriage - IWU Theater Guild

The Proposal: Fall
The Imaginary Cuckold: Winter
Infancy: Spring
The Bear: Summer
Cupid Statue
Love, Marriage, and a Baby Carriage was the first collegiate stage design Joanna tackled. The challenge of this production was to create a space that fit all four shows well, while also providing variation and discovery for the actors and audience in every new one-act. The concept of an Italian Villa that is both old and modern created that desired effect and worked for both the interior and exterior shows.
*Received a Certificate of Merit from KCACTF Region III for Set Design

The Music Man- Great Commission High School

The Music Man design attempted to catch the small Iowa town feel. Due to very small wings at the performance venue, simple transitions and minimizing offstage pieces became important. The venue was also rented only for dress rehearsal and performances so the set needed to be in small enough pieces to move with one box truck and easy to assemble quickly onsite.
*Received First Place Altoona Isaac award for Scenic Design and Construction for regional High School Musical Theater
