The casting for this show was unconventional, Hook was played by a 5'0 female and Smee was played by an over 6' male. The humor of this casting set my brain going, and as an exercise I worked to develop what I thought would be an amusing take on each of the individual characters, leaning into the quirks of the person playing them.

When told to set Shakespeare's timeless struggle of power and fate in any time and place, the assassination of Huey Long led me to 1940s, Louisiana. As the Macbeths ascend to power they take on Hollywood glamour styles which contrast the depression struggles of the people. The red waistcoat for Macbeth's banquet suit is the same fabric as Lady Macbeth's nightgown for her "Out Damn Spot" scene, representing how the blood they spilled together drives them mad.
